Stomach Flu

Stomach FluChildren may develop the stomach flu, characterized by vomiting and diarrhea, after contact with an infected person or after consuming contaminated food/water. It is usually caused by a virus and as such, must run its course. Gravol may lessen the nausea and vomiting but antidiarrheals are generally not used in children. Children can easily, and quickly, become dehydrated. An oral rehydration solution such as Pedialyte can help replace lost fluids, minerals and salts. Encourage rest and offer foods that are easy to digest such as bread, rice, bananas and potatoes. Avoid dairy products as these can worsen diarrhea. |
