H1N1 Flu During PregnancyAlthough the specific effects of H1N1 flu on pregnancy are unknown, the stresses put on the body by pregnancy increase the risk of developing serious complications of the flu such as pneumonia. These, in turn, can lead to miscarriage, premature labor or other pregnancy problems. If you’re pregnant and have symptoms of H1N1 flu which include fever, chills, cough, extreme fatigue, sore throat and body aches or if you have been in close contact with someone having these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately. He/She may advise treatment with an antiviral medication which should ideally be started within 48 hrs of onset of symptoms. If you have some of the symptoms mentioned, consult with your health care provider. |
