Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotics are considered to be important and necessary drugs required to treat severe and life threatening bacterial infections. The over-prescribing and inappropriate use of antibiotics is reducing the number of medications that we have available to treat bacterial infections. This has led to the development of super bacteria that are resistant to almost all of the antibiotics that are currently available.

When you visit your healthcare provider it is important to remember that most respiratory illnesses are viral in nature and it would be inappropriate to prescribe antibiotics for these conditions.

Remember, not all respiratory illnesses require antibiotics.
