Your total health: Nutritional Supplements

More and more people are recognizing that nutritional supplements can play an important role in health and well-being, alongside or instead of prescription medications. For this reason, Janzen’s is the only pharmacy in Thunder Bay to employ an integrative health consultant. Tim Liscomb, a graduate of the Food and Drug Technology program at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, works closely with our pharmacists to advise on the safe and effective use of nutritional supplements.

Janzen's carries the largest selection of professional-quality supplements in Thunder Bay, as well as an extensive selection of retail supplements from the industry's most reputable manufacturers. We can also create specific supplements in our compounding lab. Tim is available to consult with Janzen’s clients about integrating nutritional supplements and other complementary and alternative therapies into disease-management and treatment plans. Please contact Tim for an appointment, or visit him in the pharmacy to discuss your health and wellness concerns.

"Janzen's takes a "holistic" approach to healthcare. I'm happy to play a role in providing personalized healthcare to our clients. I look forward to meeting with you."
–Tim Liscomb, Integrative Health Consultant, Janzen's Pharmacy

Complementary and alternative medicine

At Janzen’s Pharmacy, our team of healthcare practitioners addresses total health. We firmly believe that drugs and medications are only one important part of healing and wellness. We believe that medications work best when they are accompanied by a focus on the whole patient, and the underlying physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social factors that contribute to health and disease.

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is a term used to describe a diverse group of healing systems that take such a “holistic” approach to healthcare. CAM practitioners treat the whole body. Basic CAM principles include:

  • A focus on the whole person
  • Prevention of illness
  • Individualized treatment
  • Treating the causes, rather than the symptoms, of illness
  • Treatments that support the natural healing processes of the body
