Diabetes Expertise
Janzen’s pharmacist Derek Anttila is working towards certification as a diabetes educator. A certified diabetes educator (CDE) is a healthcare professional with specialized training and certification to teach people with diabetes how to manage their condition.
CDEs teach people with diabetes about the tools and skills necessary to control blood-sugar levels and avoid long-term complications. Derek, a graduate of the faculty of pharmacy at the University of Toronto, coordinates Diabetes Education Days at Janzen’s, and is available to work with individual clients with diabetes to provide information and emotional support.
