Assisted-living and Long-term Care Facilities

Janzen’s Pharmacy provides services to more than 800 facility beds and over 500 assisted living clients in Thunder Bay and surrounding regions. Whether a facility has three patients or three hundred, our goal is the same: to develop and maintain a safe and efficient drug-delivery system and provide exceptional pharmacy service. We continue to seek innovative opportunities in knowledge and technology to enhance resident care and client satisfaction.

We offer facilities a variety of drug-delivery system, as well as training and all startup materials and equipment. We also help facilities convert from old to new systems. As an additional pharmacy service, we also provide access to a 24-hour, on-call pharmacist to all homes. We believe that it is our responsibility as a pharmacy provider to ensure that the facilities we serve meet and surpass their Standards of Accreditation.

Janzen’s long-term-care team

At Janzen’s Pharmacy, our dedicated long-term-care team is made up of a certified geriatric pharmacist, five full-time pharmacy technicians, and a pharmacist on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our LTC department is fully staffed seven days a week, with designated phone and fax lines to ensure smooth communications.

Cheryl Ready's practice is dedicated solely to the residents who live in the long-term care facilities we service. She regularly reviews each resident’s medication regime, taking into account adverse drug reactions, unnecessary or inappropriate drugs, and other issues. Cheryl is available to meet with patients, their families, physicians and nursing staff to discuss any concerns.

Cutting-edge technology: The PacMed Medication Administration System

For the benefit of our long-term care clients, Janzen’s Pharmacy has invested in the PacMed Medication Administration System. This innovative technology enhances pharmacy accuracy and efficiency and patient safety.

The PacMed System is ideal for use in assisted-living or long-term care homes with multiple patients, where multiple caregivers administer medications. The system consists of a strip of cellophane pouches, containing multi-dose or unit-dose medications, and a Pouch Porter box to store them in.

  • Clearly labeled with all necessary patient and drug information
  • Customized administration times
  • Easy to open

The Pouch Porter

  • Patient identification card with photo
  • List alerts and allergies
  • Contains one week’s worth of patient medication
  • Room to store other medications, such as inhalers or eye drops
  • Medication roll fits in the front section of the Pouch Porter, with drugs packaged in order of administration time; the next pouch to be administered is always on top
  • Janzen’s Pharmacy restocks Pouch Porter each week

Medication carts

  • Pouch Porters for each floor or area of the facility are loaded onto custom medication carts for easy portability and dispensing.

Janzens provides all startup materials and supplies to maintain the PacMed system.
